Poetry

March is Poetry month in Writer's Workshop!
We began by reading many different types of poetry and creating this anchor chart of what we noticed most poetry has...

Next, we needed to understand that Poets often look at things differently- with Poet's Eyes.
Check out this chart to see what we found...

Then, we created some poetry as a class.
We wanted to describe what recess meant to us and how it made us feel.

Now see what some students created independently...

I am so proud of ALL of our Kindergarten Poets!

Plants!!!!

We have been learning all about plants!  We have been studying a plant's needs, parts, and observing many different experiments.
This week we planted a few different seeds in soil and we are patiently waiting for them to sprout!
Check it out...

Here we learned the importance of a plant's stem...
to support the plant and bring water to the leaves and flowers.

Here we are observing what happens when we cut off the top and bottom of a carrot...
the top will grow back!

Rodeo Day and Cook Off

Kindergarten Rodeo Day!
Howdy  Parents! ! !
Next Thursday, March 6th is our Kindergarten Rodeo Day!  After learning all about Texas and Cowboys the past two weeks, we will celebrate our learning with fun activities and games outside.  Please dress your child appropriately for the weather.  He or she can wear western clothing as long as they can move easily in it- if not, save those special clothes for tomorrow.  If you would like to be a parent volunteer to help out with one of the stations please let me know asap so that I can assign you to one.  Or, if you can help by donating any of the following items please send them in asap :)  5 cardboard boxes, green pipe cleaners, a plastic baby pool, bandanas, stick horses, face paint, and bottled water.

KindergarteCook Off
Friday, March 7th is our Kindergarten Cook Off during our lunch time.
From 10:35-11:05 we will be having our very own Texas meal in our classroom.  Wear your favorite western style clothing.  Parents are welcome to come and join.
Your child brought home a small 1/2 sheet of paper today that asked you to bring the following item.  Please have ALL items to school by Wednesday, March 5th to prepare for our lunch.
If you would like to volunteer- I would love your help to get everything ready at school :)  Please let me know asap if you would like to help.  After our lunch please feel free to take your little Cowboy or Cowgirl home to begin your Spring Break.

Sight words and Special Sounds

Please continue to practice ALL of the sight words we have learned this year!  It is important that your child not only be able to read them but also write them.  Call out the sight word to your child but do not show them the word.  Have them write the sight word as quickly and accurately as they can.
Our new sight words since winter break:

was, she, he, will, no, not, that, they, did, get

We have also learned about some special sounds... digraphs!  When these letters are put together they create a new sound.

SH, TH, CH, WH, PH

We have learned some L and R blend sounds...
SL, BL, PL, GL, FL, CL, PR, TR, DR, BR

Please practice reading these, stretching (sounding) out words and spelling words with these when writing.

Thank you for helping your child succeed!
